The others I had recently read about (I guess we read the same blogs!), :-) but this was new. And sad. Why allow midwives to preside over the death of a living fetus, but not allow them to preside over their live births?

A couple of years ago, I read about a young woman who chose to have a home birth with a midwife when her baby was breech, and sadly the baby got stuck and died. This woman had considered abortion earlier in pregnancy (being young and unmarried) but chose life; she just didn't like the "automatic C-section" as her only other option. There were calls on the part of doctors and some officials to investigate the midwife for presiding over the breech birth-death, yet this young mother pointed out how ridiculous it was that she legally would have been able to kill her baby if she wanted to, but then her midwife could be persecuted/prosecuted for the accidental death of the baby?

-Kathywomantowomancbehttp://womantowomancbe.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4905657459154240355.post-22310498227151937202009-02-06T07:49:00.000-08:002009-02-06T07:49:00.000-08:00Gosh, it really makes no sense at all.
